(10 am the next day)
When Yami opened his eyes, it was light out. He blinked and sat up, for a moment alittle confused, then he remembered. Looking around, he found himself alone in the guest room. Wondering what time it was, he looked around for a clock and found it was 10 in the morning.
Had he really slept so long? Standing he stretched and felt his spine pop. Looking around again, he opened the mind link to find Yugi.
‘Where are you?’ He asked as he went to the closet to get dressed in his new clothes.
‘Oh your finally awake! I’m downstairs with Grandpa.’ Yugi replied, he sounded a lot happier than he was yesterday.
‘Okay I’ll be down there in a few minutes.’ He said. After picking out his clothes he pulled them on, just a simple black and red tank with black pants. After dressing he headed downstairs to find Yugi in the kitchen.
Yami smiled at his light and sat down next to him. ‘Good Morning.’ He said through the link. Yugi laughed a little and nodded.
“So I see you two have the link back.” Solomon commented as he sat down, setting down a plate of breakfast, western style, which consisted of eggs, bacon and toast.
Yami looked at the old man in shock. How could he know? Solomon fixed Yami with a hard look. Yugi hadn’t seemed to have heard him. Shaking his head and deciding to file this information away for another time, he tucked into his meal.
There wasn’t much talking going around the table, but there was inside the two boys heads.
‘Did you sleep well?’ Yugi asked as he took a bite of his toast, staring at Yami as the former pharaoh took a drink of orange juice.
‘Yes, very much.’ Yami looked at Yugi and winked. The younger boy blushed.
The conversation continued like that for a few minutes, Yami making comments that made Yugi blush or advert his eyes. Even though they were quite innocent.*
After a few minutes Solomon stood, setting down the paper he’d been reading. Sighing he looked at the clock, then at Yugi. “ Yugi…” He said.
The boy paled some and glanced at the clock as well. He nodded and lowered his head. He didn’t say anything as he stood and went upstairs.
Yami watched after him then turned to his grandfather, who was busy putting the dishes in the sink to be washed later.
“What’s going on?” He asked.
Solomon sighed and shook his head, “Yugi’ll tell you.” He said as he walked out towards the Game Shop.
The former pharaoh looked after him then turned and followed Yugi up the stairs. ‘Hikari what’s the matter?’ He asked as he went inside the younger boy’s room.
‘Nothing I just gotta go do something.’ He replied as he got dressed inside the bathroom.
“What do you have to do?” Yami asked outloud this time. There was a silence from inside the other room.
Yugi came out a minute later dressed in dark colours with his hair damp from washing it quickly in the sink.
“Yugi?” The boy sighed alittle and went over to the hat rack in his room, putting on one that hid his face if he lowered it.
“Remember Dr. Zula?” He asked quietly.
Yami nodded, he thought he knew where this was going.
“I have to go see her in an hour.” He said as he lowered his head and sighed again.
Yami walked forward and tilted Yugi’s face up with his hand. “I’ll go with you.” He said smiling, but he frowned when Yugi shook his head.
“No, I don’t think you should, I’ll be fine, it’s just…” He trailed off, he didn’t know what he was afraid of. He just didn’t want Dr. Zula to tell him what he was already afraid of…That Yami really didn’t exsist, that he was still just imagining him…
Yami shook his head then, “I’m going with you, I want to be with you.” He said brushing his thumb across Yugi’s cheek.
The younger shivered and pushed himself into Yami’s chest, wanting the former-spirit to hold him. Yami wrapped his arms tightly around his light and hugged him.
“Yugi! The car’s here!” Solomon yelled from downstairs. Yami held Yugi for a few seconds more before releasing. “Come on.”
Yugi nodded and moved towards the door, holding Yami’s hand as he went down the stairs and out of the Game Shop.
A sleek black car was waiting with the driver waiting inside. He waved to Yugi and the boy nodded back. He opened the door and slid inside. Yami slid in next and sat down next to Yugi as the car pulled away into morning traffic.
The driver looked back at them from the front. “Mr. Kaiba may not like this sir.” The man said.
Yugi sighed and nodded as he stared out the window. “I know Mitch, I just… want him with me.” He said looking at the driver and smiling alittle.
Mitch smiled back and continued driving.
About 30 minutes later they arrived outside a small building. The sign out front declared it a therapy and recooperation building.
Yugi stepped out one side and Yami wen tout the other. Yugi smiled briefly at Mitch and waved him goodbye as the man drove off.
Yami followed Yugi into the building. Where a woman with bright red hair that was obviously not her natural colour sat. She was answering phones and writing down appointments. She took only a look at Yugi and nodded him to the left.
Yugi nodded back and went in the direction she pointed. The hallway was long and wide, wheelchairs sat outside some rooms where the sound of T.V.s, radios, and talking were coming from.
Yami didn’t look into any of the rooms, choosing to keep his eyes on Yugi, the boy seemed to grow more and more small. His head down as he walked and his shoulder hunched.
They finally reached the end of the hallway where an office sat. Yugi took a deep breath before opening the door and walking through, he seemed to have forgotten that Yami was there.
There was a secretary sitting at the desk, an old woman with a kind face. She looked up at Yugi and a smile lit up her face. “Hello love, she’ll be with you in a moment.” Yugi nodded and sat down, his head lowered. The old woman looked over at Yami, “Oh my, are you too related?” She asked as she noticed a resemblance.
Yugi lifted his head and looked at Yami, “No, we’re not exactly related.” He said with a small smile. The woman smiled and nodded, “Well is he going to be waiting for you?”
Yugi and Yami nodded at the same time. The old woman smiled and gestured Yami to take a seat beside Yugi.
The former Pharaoh did as directed and sat close to his light, holding his hand.
Samantha, the old woman, watched them with a small smile. She saw the way the older looking boy was looking at her little guy. Over the year it had taken very little time for Samantha to get close to the boy who came to her boss’ office looking like a lost puppy. Her nature as a grandmother of 7 made her want to help this young boy, so she talked to him as he sat there.
Sometimes when he would come out crying she was get up and hold him to try and make him feel better. She hated seeing anyone cry.
She stared at the boy beside her Yugi, he looked alittle strange, but she could understand that with young people these days. He looked to be around 19 or 20, and looked slightly like Yugi, with the same features.
During her musings, a buzzer rang. She pressed a button on her desk in reply and Yugi looked up startled. He looked to her and she nodded back.
“She’s ready to see you love.” Samantha called out to Yugi. The young boy stood up and took a deep breath. He smiled alittle at Samantha and the boy he was sitting next to and walked in.
“Ah Yugi, good to see you, please sit down…” A sweet voice sounded from inside the office.
As the door shut, Yami sighed. He looked up at the woman at her desk to find her staring at him. “And what’s your name?” She asked him.
He nodded his head at her and replied, “Atemu, but people call me Yami.” He said.
“Atemu? That’s an unusual name, if you don’t mind me saying.” She said with a small smile. Yami shook his head, “It’s egyptian.” He said smiling alittle.
“Have you known Yugi long?” She asked. Yami nodded, “For almost 3 years now. I went away for the last 2 and just came back yesterday.”
It was Samantha’s turn to nod.
A similar but different conversation was going on inside the office
